Celedon’s descent: The magic of Vitoria in the hands of Mendexa Abentura Park

Did you know that the Mendexa Abentura Park team is behind the most exciting moment of the Virgen Blanca festivities in Vitoria-Gasteiz? Like every year, the setup and complete management of Celedón’s famous zip line is handled by our high-altitude work experts. From the trees of our forest to the skies of Vitoria, this is the work we carry out during these special August days (keeping our greatest technical secrets safely under wraps, of course!).

1. The silence of the night and the final touches: Preparing the magic

To ensure Celedón’s flight is flawless and, above all, 100% safe, there is an immense amount of work behind the scenes. When locals watch the path from the San Miguel tower down to the Virgen Blanca square, it all seems to happen by magic, but our main responsibility is keeping that illusion alive.

The assembly of this giant zip line takes place at night while the city sleeps. We apply the very same safety standards and techniques used at Mendexa Park’s facilities, but right in the center of the main square. Once everything is securely in position, we put the final touches and conduct thorough testing so that on August 4th, everything goes off without a hitch.

2. The big days: Chupinazo and Farewell

The square packed to the brim, nerves on edge, and thousands of eyes staring up at the sky. These moments bring peak tension and excitement for our team:

  • August 4th (The Descent): With the explosion of the chupinazo rocket, Celedón begins his flight. Our job is to make the descent smooth, secure, and magical for the entire crowd below to enjoy.
  • August 9th (The Ascent): The end of the festivities. Celedón returns to the skies of Vitoria until next year. This ascent, full of bittersweet nostalgia, is also executed under the direct guidance of our crew, ensuring the final goodbye is as moving as always.

3. The txikis’ turn: The excitement of August 7th

But Vitoria’s festivities are not exclusively for Celedón. August 7th is a super special day for the youngest ones in the house, and we are right there with them too. On this day, we manage the descent of Celedón Txiki and Neska Txiki.

For us, working with children every single day at the park, it is incredible to see that pure joy on the faces of Vitoria’s kids. It is an immense responsibility, but also a huge honor to be part of one of the most beautiful traditions in Basque cultural festivals.

High-altitude adventures and safety are our absolute specialty, both in the heart of Vitoria and inside our woods. If you want to fly through the air just like Celedón, you know exactly where to find us!
